About Us

Established in 2000, Shadowfax is a boutique winery located just 30 minutes from Melbourne in the heart of Werribee Park. 

Dedicated to creating high quality and handcrafted wines, our renowned varieties include Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Riesling and Shiraz as well as a selection of highly limited, single-vineyard wines.

Our Chief Winemaker Alister Timms has a strong focus on regionality with the majority of fruit sourced and hand-harvested from our vineyards in the Macedon Ranges and Werribee as well as small growers in Geelong. Each and every vineyard has its own distinct characteristics and produces grapes of only the highest quality.

Contemporary in design and function, our winery’s unique architecture reflects an attempt to create a harmony between the winery and its natural surroundings. Designed by award-winning architects Wood Marsh, the winery's rusted sheet metal exterior and terracotta interior evoke the best of our Australian wine heritage.

Open Wednesday to Sunday - 11am-5pm we offer visitors the opportunity to taste our range of wines, purchase from the cellar door, enjoy a delicious meal in the restaurant or take a stroll through the picturesque surrounds and the neighbouring formal gardens of Werribee Park.

To view the underground barrel hall, descend the orange spiral staircase to an underground cavern where all Shadowfax’s barrels are stored. Here you can soak in the atmosphere, savour the aromas of maturing wines and learn more about the art of winemaking.

Our close proximity to the Werribee Mansion and formal gardens, Victoria State Rose Garden and Werribee Open Range Zoo means that it's just a short walk to visit these incredible attractions.

But why Shadowfax? Where does the name come from? In J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic, The Lord of the Rings, Shadowfax was chief among horses. He shone by day and passed unseen at night, and it was considered that Shadowfax would be a fine symbol for our winery.
