Sutherlands Creek, Geelong
A wet winter and later start to spring meant delayed flowering, but a good fruit-set led into a long, cool growing season. Yields were moderate and the fruit matured nicely on the vine, building flavour and concentration.
Fruit was hand harvested and whole bunch pressed. Juice was allowed to naturally clarify then fermented at moderate (14-16°C) temperatures till dryness. Pressings were fermented separately in old barriques and then blended back into the wine. The wine remained in contact with lees for 12 weeks before being racked and allowed to mature in tank before bottling.
Youthful straw green, clear star-bright edge.
Lime, orange peel, white florals and candied musk.
Beautiful supple front palate of lime and green apple leading into a fresh line of refreshing Riesling acidity. The palate is framed by some chalkiness and phenolic grip adding interest. Along finish and the lingering pithy citrus leads you back for more. Our 10th vintage of Riesling from this outstanding vineyard is totally delicious as a young wine, but has the intensity and structure to age gracefully through the medium term.
3-4 years in a cool place.
Kingfish ceviche, shaved fennel salad, or by itself
