Big Shed, Midhill, Mt Macedon Vineyard
A warmer growing season in the Macedon Ranges. A dry spring led to early budburst. Dry warm conditions prevailed, with unsettled flowering and small crops. Careful shoot thinning was required to maintain balance in the canopy. We harvested with excellent flavours, 26 days earlier than 2015.
All fruit was handpicked and naturally fermented in open vats. A small percentage of whole fruit was added to each ferment. Ferments were pressed at dryness and carefully transferred to new (26%) and used French hogsheads for MLF and maturation. The wines were then blended and bottled 29 May 2017
Deep red, excellent clarity and a dense red edge.
A deeply fruited nose of plum, black cherry, Chinese five spice, a hint of native sage.
Concentrated and dense, with powerful flavours of black stone fruits, dark cherry, some bitter chocolate. Tannins are fine and flavoursome, expressive of the riper year. This is a structured, plush and delicious Pinot Noir, perfectly grown and made with care and consideration.
