March - May 2017
A wet winter and late spring delayed flowering.
Flowering was even and set good crop levels.
Summer was late and relatively cool with no
excessive hot spells and no 40+ temperature days
during the growing season. A mild autumn and
Indian summer delayed harvest, with flavours given
time to reach their full potential. The Carignan
and Cinsault were picked very late, the first week
of May. The other varieties from our Werribee
vineyard that make up the 2017 Minnow Rosé are
Syrah, Mourvedre, Grenache and Pinot Noir.
Fruit was hand picked and immediately gently
whole bunch pressed to give minimal colour
and tannin extraction. Natural fermentation
occurred in older French barrels. The wine
rested on lees for five months before racking
before bottling in October 2017.
Pale copper with hints of salmon.
Some cream, violets and hints of complexing spice.
A generous mouth filling mid palate shows rich
peach and strawberry fruits and some cream
characters. The high pH gives the wine a lovely
mouth-coating warmth. Big flavours spill onto a
long and rich finish. Lacy delicate tannins give
some complexity adding crunch and length. The
2017 Minnow Rosé is a dangerously drinkable
wine and best enjoyed chilled on a warm day.
Wood fired margarita pizza, nori rolls or on its own on a sunny afternoon.
