2 & 3 March 2016
A warmer growing season in the Macedon Ranges. A dry spring led to early budburst. Dry warm conditions prevailed, with unsettled flowering and small crops. Careful shoot thinning was required to maintain balance in the canopy. We harvested with excellent flavours, 22 days earlier than 2015.
All fruit was handpicked and whole bunch pressed then naturally fermented in new (30%) and used French oak hogsheads. The wine remained in contact with lees in barrel till February 2017, then rested in tank for four months before bottling in May 2017.
Pale straw, youthful green edge
Lovely white stone fruits, grapefruit, some small white flowers, a touch of complex reduction.
A fuller expression of Macedon, with rich flavours of fig, cashew, some wheatmeal and white florals. The palate is textured and full, with excellent length and impeccable balance. Another excellent Macedon Ranges Chardonnay, expressive of the season and respectful to the vineyard.
