Midhill, Cleveland and Glenfern
Another terrifi c growing season in the Macedon Ranges. An even budburst and settled conditions at fl owering set large crops across all our vineyards. Careful shoot thinning was required to maintain balance in the canopy. We harvested with excellent fl avours and balanced natural acidities, two weeks earlier than 2014.
All fruit was handpicked and whole bunch pressed then naturally fermented in new (23%) and used French oak hogsheads. The wine remained in contact with lees in barrel till February 2016, then rested in tank for four months before bottling in June 2016.
“It’s stylish but delicious. It has just enough of everything.”
– Campbell Mattinson, winefront, October 2016
Pale straw, youthful green edge
Lovely early stone fruits, grapefruit, some small white flowers, a touch of complex reduction.
White stone fruits on the palate- nectarine, peach- and some pithy grapefruit character too. Excellent concentration with typical Macedon tension, the mid palate is rich and fl eshy. Some extract adds structure to the fi nish, and bright mineral acidity frames the palate beautifully. Another excellent Macedon Ranges Chardonnay, expressive of the season and respectful to the vineyards.
