Little Hampton, Macedone Ranges
The second Pinot Noir released from our Little Hampton Vineyard. At 700 metres above sea level, it is one of the highest and coolest in the Macedon Ranges. A very dry spring and early budburst meant fruit ripened almost a month earlier than usual. We harvested a perfect crop of fully ripened Pinot Noir, with great depth and complexity.
All fruit was hand picked, destemmed then hand sorted. Fermentation proceeded using naturally occurring yeasts, and after 24 days on skins the new wine was pressed and transferred to new (40%) and used French hogsheads for MLF and maturation. The wine was bottled without filtration on 24 February 2017.
Deep red, with excellent clarity and a rim of deep purple.
A wonderful complex nose. Cherries, small red berries, violets, some plum and a hint of complexing reduction. Pure, lifted and utterly seductive.
The dry growing season has added warmth and fullness to the perfectly balanced palate. Waves of flavour- cherry, some florals, wild sage- flow beautifully. Tannins are fine and acidity perfectly in harmony. This is really compelling wine, a wonderful expression of a very special vineyard.
