7 March 2015
A very good, low yielding vintage in the Barossa Valley. Good winter rains filled the soil profile, and a warmer than usual spring led to an even fruit set. Shiraz ripened evenly, with good acidity and excellent colour. A wonderful vintage with most wines showing classical aromas and fine extract.
All fruit was handpicked and naturally fermented in open vats. After 22 days on skins the new wine was pressed and allowed to settle for 72 hours, then transferred to new (20%) and used French hogsheads. The wine was racked in spring then returned to wood for another 12 months, before blending and bottling in March 2017.
Dense purple red, edge is black crimson
Dense cassis, black plum, some blue fruits, a hint of gravel and toasty wood.
A wonderful complex palate. 2015 has delivered a palate rich and complex, with spices, black currant, plum, cassis and graphite. The tannins are fine and frame the fruit perfectly. Acidity and alcohol are balanced and lead to a very long finish. A wonderful expression of Barossa, with the structure and power to age gracefully for many years.
