Blieschke Vineyard in Marananga, Barossa Valley
Nigel Blieschke has been growing Shiraz on his tiny vineyard at Marananga for half his life. Once again, we purchased a small parcel of this highly sought after fruit in 2013. It was a warm, dry vintage and the wines produced show the power and depth of flavour this part of the world is renowned for. We harvested perfectly ripened Shiraz with wonderful colour and dense, deep flavours.
Handpicked fruit was fermented in traditional open vat, 30% whole fruit. Fermented using naturally occurring yeasts, and pressed after 26 days on skins. The new wine was transferred to used French hogsheads for MLF and maturation. The wines were racked and blended then bottled on 18 April, 2014
Deep red, purple edge, dense and impenetrable
Deep black fruit aromas- plum, cassis, some cedar. Some ironstone and liquorice spice notes
Black fruits flood the palate. Plum, blackcurrant, some Indian spice and a hint of chocolate. Tannins are formidable but perfectly in balance. Another great expression of the Barossa with poise and structure to age gracefully.
Rare dry aged beef, or slow cooked hare ragout.
