Halliday Wine Companion 2019
August 7, 2018
We’re thrilled to have received another 5 red star rating from James Halliday in his just-released Halliday Wine Companion 2019.
Our wines from the Macedon Ranges are the heroes. Top marks go to our Macedon Ranges Chardonnay 2016 (96 points), Macedon Ranges Pinot Gris 2017 (95 Points) and Little Hampton Pinot Noir 2016 (95 Points).
Here’s what James said:
96 Points Macedon Ranges Chardonnay 2016 – Gold Medal Macedon Wine Show. Gleaming straw-green – considerable depth but very bright. A powerful and intense wine with excellent varietal character, balance and length, handsomely ticking all the boxes. Continues a history of success by Shadowfax, with verve and style.
95 Points Macedon Ranges Pinot Gris 2017 – A great example of Pinot Gris, made with integrity and intent. It’s full of flavour and texture without being heavy. A mix of poached pears, clotted cream dipped in ginger spice with some pippy/apricot kernel savoury nuances. Lovely.
95 Points Little Hampton Pinot Noir 2016 – The bouquet is very fragrant, with rose petal and violets, the palate a delicate but perfectly balanced peacock’s tail display. The individual pieces of this silk tapestry may be small, but they continue to create a picture of total harmony.
94 Points Macedon Ranges Pinot Noir 2016 – Its full crimson-purple hue is far deeper and brighter than its Little Hampton sibling. It’s a wine of power, not persuasion, but isn’t extractive or brutish – give it 5++ years and you’ll be mightily pleased with yourself.
93 Points Geelong Riesling 2017
92 Points Minnow Rose 2017
91 Points Minnow 2016
90 Points Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc
